Comments Off on Tree Care – The Many Fascinating Characteristics Of Trees
Trees play a significant role in taking care of our land, the animals around us and of course, us. They provide us materials for our homes, protect us from the sun and they mostly give us food. They are truly valuable that we should not take for granted.
With its many fascinating characteristics, here are some facts we can learn from them.
- Australia hosts 58% of tree species which is 24,000 species of native plants which are mostly known for giving food and medicines. Some plants are only found in Australia like the Emu bushes. Common native Australian trees are Acacia, Grevillea and gum trees.
- Some trees know how to defend themselves from their enemies. Some trees know how to call predators that are attacking them. Apple trees are a good example of this since when caterpillars attack them, they will release certain chemicals to call birds thus the birds will consume the pests in the end.
- Tree roots can reach hundreds of feet deep if they are grown in the right conditions. Oak, pine and hickory can grow roots longer than 20 feet while one wild fig tree in South Africa was able to grow roots that were 400 feet deep.
- Trees combat air pollution. This is mostly a common knowledge, but do you know that trees mostly absorb around 22.7 kg of carbon dioxide each year to lessen the air pollution levels we may take. With the help of trees, they are able to help remove pollution and save more lives.
Trees are very important but they are often times endangered mostly because of people. We need to help trees because our future mostly relies on them. If you are thinking of cutting a tree or just simply prune them, contact a professional arborist so that they can properly assess your tree’s needs.
